Then put 2 on the right-hand side in row 5. Then move
diagonally. Put 3 as shown in row 4. Then, since there is no place left to
move in the right side, climb one level up and come to row 1. Here put the
number 4. Then move diagonally. Put 5 in row 2, col 2. Since there is another
number in the row 1, col 3, you come down by one level after putting the number
5. In row 3, col 2 put 6. Then move diagonally. In row 2, col 3 put 7, and row 1
col 4, put 8 then, since there is no place above row 1, come down to row 5, col 5 and put the number 9. Since there is no place to move diagonally from
this position, move one level up to row 4, col 1, and put the number 10. As there
is already a number 6 in row 4, col 2, come down by one level to row 5 and put 11
in row 5, col 1. From here move diagonally until you reach row 1, col 5, where
you enter the number 15.
This is where you have to make the important step. From here, there is no way that you go up diagonally or can you come down to the next
column. Hence, put the next number 16, just below the number 15 in row 2, col 5.
From here, since there is no place to go diagonally, go up by one level to row 1,
col 1 and put the number 17 there.
From here follow the rules explained earlier and you end up
with a magic square as shown above. |
